Acupuncture

Acupuncture at The Awareness CentreThe concepts of Yin and Yang are used to explain the effects of a treatment. The forces must be in perfect harmony for the body’s organs, systems and emotions to be healthy. It is when the flow of chi is interrupted and energy becomes blocked that imbalance and consequently ill health result. By inserting needles in specific points situated along the meridian lines, the circulation of chi can be altered.

What conditions is it good for:

  • from the point of pain relief , acupuncture is an excellent treatment for sports injuries
  • neck and back problems
  • migraine
  • period pain
  • arthritic and rheumatic pain.
  • It can also be very effective for emotional disorders including depression
  • PMS
  • allergy sufferers
  • symptoms of menopause

Acupuncture for support before, during and after IVF and Pregnancy

Judi has completed an Integrated Acupuncture Seminar for Obstetrics and Fertility which studied safe treatment for infertility/IVF and throughout pregnancy.

Acupuncture is a safe, natural therapy. It can help to increase fertility and support women and men through IVF. In pregnancy acupuncture can help to bring natural relief from morning sickness, backache, anxiety, pelvic pain and insomnia, reducing the need for drugs. Stimulation of a point on the little toe can also help to turn breech and posterior presentations from 33 weeks onwards.

As a prebirth treatment from week 36 it helps women prepare for labour and relieves anxiety. This treatment can help to shorten labour and reduce medical intervention, along with a hands-on guide to acupressure for pain relief during labour. Prior to a medical induction acupuncture can provide a more natural induction.

If couples begin a healthcare program which includes acupuncture and nutrition for 3-4 months prior to conception it can have a positive impact on the quality of egg and sperm, thereby encouraging more positive outcomes. Even a six week course of acupuncture can help to prepare both partners for IVF treatment.

During IVF, weekly treatment is recommended. It is then advised before and after embryo transfer. If conception is achieved it can be given weekly as support and during pregnancy as required.

In its country of origin it is not an alternative form of therapy, but is used in the state hospitals alongside modern medicine.

Chinese Medicine is a complete medical system that is capable of treating disease in all its forms. Whilst your main complaint you have come for will be addressed, the traditional view places great importance on preventing disease before it occurs.

Massage - Cranial Sacral

Cranio Sacral therapy taps in the bodies natural rythym influenced by the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid within the spine, and the slight movement or "breathe" of the skull bones.  It can resolve the trapped forces that underlie and govern patterns of disease and fragmentation in both body and mind. This involves the practitioner "listening through the hands" to the body's subtle rhythms and any patterns of inertia or congestion.  This is done by slight influences in the skull and throughout the rest of the body.

The cranial rhythmic impulse; a more superficial rhythm expressed at an average rate of 8-12 cycles per minute, and can be treated and influenced in these cycles.

It is an effective form of treatment for a wide range of illnesses helping to create the optimal conditions for health, encouraging vitality and facilitating a sense of well-being. It is suitable for people of all ages including babies, children and the elderly, and can be effective in acute or chronic cases.

Massage - Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue Massage at The Awareness CentreDeep Tissue Massage is a type of massage focusing on the deeper layers of muscles, with the aim of relieving chronic patterns of tension in the body.  When we are stressed toxins build up in our tissues, blocking the circulation and causing the muscles to contract and develop knots.  These knots can then cause pain, inflammation and limited movement in the muscles and joints.

Deep Tissue Massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish Massage, but the pressure is generally more intense with slower more focused strokes being used to break down knots and tension in specific problem areas.  This massage is especially helpful for easing chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, lower back tightness and sore shoulders and is very effective in relieving pain and promoting relaxation.

Massage - Hot Stone

Hot Stones Massage at The Awareness Centre
Stone Massage is a therapy that uses hot and cold stones. The therapist uses his hands to transfer the hot or cold from the stones to the client's body.  When the client is used to the temperature, the therapist uses the stone to massage with.  If the muscle needs more relaxing the therapist would leave a hot stone on the area for a deeper effect.

The application of warmed and cooled river rocks, combined with the manual massage, provides a deeply relaxing, therapeutic experience.  As a contemporary therapy, Stone massage was introduced to the world of Spa treatments by Mary Nelson in 1993.  The therapeutic use of stones and rocks, has however, been employed for thousands of years in various forms.

Stone therapy respects nature and uses its strengths to make the treatment one of the most wonderful and healing therapies that there is. Pure decadence!

Massage - Natural Face Lift

Natural Face Lift at The Awareness Centre
The very popular natural face lift massage uses a series of highly effective techniques drawn from japanese and indian face massage which act as a natural face lift with no need for surgery, helping you to look and feel younger.

Many people suffer facial tension which builds up in the facial muscles causing puffiness, age, spots, lines and wrinkles. Facial reflexology is used to treat the meridians and encourage the healthy balance and flow of chi throughout the whole body, while acupressure techniques produce the equivalent of an acupuncture facelift without the insertion on needles. Highly refined and gentle hand and finger manipulation is also used to treat the surface and deep facial muscles to give you a more radiant and youthful appearance.

Toxins are removed, blood circulation increased, facial muscles tones and strengthened and the condition of the skin is repaired and balanced, minimising the ageing process and making your skin look smoother, clearer and younger.

Unlike facial surgery, Natural Face Lift massage has no ill side effects and the benefits can not only be seen and felt in the face but throughout the whole body, balancing life force energy and improving overall health and vitality.

The massage is given on a massage table, using a minimal amount of oil and incorporating a wide variety of techniques. Treatments typically last for one hour.

It is advisable to book a course of treatments to get the maximum benefit from this massage and long lasting results.

This is all taken in to account to find out where their Qi is blocked and what meridians need to be worked upon.  Tui Na was introduced into Japan where it was modified to become what is now known as shiatsu.  It is one of the oldest forms of massage.

This form of massage is done fully clothed and without oils.  Using techniques like pressing, squeezing, rolling and vibration, these techniques used to get the Qi flow back into balance.

Meditation

Meditation with Marik KielyMeditation is an age-old practice that provides deep physical, emotional, and spiritual rest. It enables our mind and body to slow down for a short space of time. The powerful potential of meditation can be illustrated by studies that show that the heart rate and breathing can slow down more during meditation than during sleep.

The benefits of this can be far-reaching. As a profound sense of rest is found, we become more content in ourselves. Stress dissipates, and general health and well-being improve.

Those who mediate regularly will find benefits in their everyday life. These may include:

  • The ability to switch off after a hard day at work
  • Less irritability, anxiety, or negative thoughts
  • Increased concentration
  • Some find that it strengthens their own personal religious beliefs
  • Chronic complaints, such as poor sleep or difficult digestion, should also improve

For some, meditation provides a greater connectedness to people and nature and the world around them. Others may simply find that it provides them with greater vitality to perform well at work and to balance this with a rounded personal life. Meditating regularly is like embarking on a journey, and it will take different people in different directions depending upon their own ideals and aspirations.

Meditation is very simple to learn – anybody can do it – and can be carried out anywhere. Sitting on a plane at 20, 000 feet, sitting on a bus, or in the park. Once you have learnt the technique, it should ideally be practised every day. That may sound like a big commitment, but people generally find that they quickly begin to cherish it, and, as something important, find it easy to make the time. Having learnt how to meditate, this will be a gift that you will have for the rest of your life.

Instruction is carried out one-to-one during an hour session. Then the client is required to return one week later to ensure that they are carrying out the meditation correctly. This will also provide an opportunity to discuss their experiences. Ideally, the client is then asked to return again one month later, again just to make sure that they are obtaining the maximum benefit.

Osteopathy

Osteopathy at The Awareness CentreThis is a therapy that aims to pinpoint and treat any problem that is of a mechanical nature. The body’s energy flow is thought to follow certain routes, connecting every organ and gland with an ending or pressure point on the feet, hands or another part of the body. The massaging of particular reflex points enables blocked channels to be cleared, restoring the energy flow and at the same time healing any damage.

Reflexology can be effective for the relief of:

  • Back pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Toothache
  • Digestive disorders
  • Asthma
  • Arthritis
  • Sleep disorders
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Sports injuries
  • Stress related conditions

Reflexology - Hot Stone

Hot Stone Reflexology combines the benefits of an individual reflexology treatment with a number of different sized smaller warmed basalt stones to enable deep stimulation of the reflex points for a relaxing and deeply rejuvenating full body treatment. The heat from the stones quickly opens the energy pathways, improves the relaxation response and increases healing through improved blood flow and circulation.
