The Addiction Recovery Programme at The Awareness Centre offers a range of stages of treatment.

The stages are as follows;

Primary Stage
Secondary Stage
Aftercare Treatment
Evening Programme
Relapse Programme
Family Programme

A client's care plan will be completed during the initial assessment and from there a comprehensive view of an individual's treatment will be drawn.  Each client will attend Primary (full-time), Secondary (part-time), Aftercare (individual sessions) Programme initially for twelve weeks with a mid-programme review at six weeks.  Our Evening Programme and Relapse Programme are reviewed every four weeks.

Primary Stage Treatment
Our Primary Stage Treatment involves attendance five days per week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 9am-4.30pm and Wednesdays 9am-1pm.  Clients are guided through steps one, two and three of the twelve step treatment programme with the aid of written assignments, step reading groups, workshops and group therapy.  The programme includes a weekly internal twelve step meeting of either Alcohols Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous in rotation.  Clients are expected to attend at least three external fellowship meeting per week of their choice to support their recovery.  In addition clients will also see their allocated counsellor individually once a week.  We encourage clients to attend external appointments on a Wednesday afternoon to ensure minimum disruption of their programme attendance.

Secondary Stage Treatment
Our Secondary Stage Treatment involves attendance three days per week on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays 9am-4.30pm.  Clients will revisit steps one, two and three and we will also introduce step four at this stage of treatment.  Appropriate assignments will be designed to suit the client's individual needs.  In addition clients will also see their allocated counsellor individually once a week.  Clients are expected to attend at least three external fellowship meeting per week of their choice to support their recovery and will need to start work with their sponsor.  Our aim is to re-establish clients into the community and therefore it is compulsary that clients attend a further education course or start a voluntary placement.  They are assisted in researching possible placements within further education and/or voluntary work by the Programme Administrator and student placement social workers.

Aftercare Programme
Our Aftercare Programme involves individual sessions and group therapy on a weekly basis over a period of twelve weeks.  However, depending on the clients progress this may be extended.  We have adapted the Aftercare Programme to complete twelve individual sessions and group therapy sessions over a period of eighteen weeks.  This is called our Aftercare Stepdown Programme and involves six weekly individual and group therapy sessions and six fortnightly individual and group therapy sessions.

Evening Programme
Our Evening Programme involves attendance three evenings a week on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 6pm - 9pm over an eight week period to accommodate clients that have work commitments.  The framework of the programme incorporates the twelve step treatment programme with the aid of written assignments, step reading groups, workshops, group therapy and personalised assignments that are relevant to the client and their specific areas of need.  These may include assignments based on intimacy, bereavement and loss, anger, relationships with family, children, partners etc.

Relapse Programme
Our relapse Programme is a support programme for clients that relapse within our abstinent based programmes listed above.  This programme comprises of structured attendance Mondays and Tuesdays from 9am to 12pm with 2 individual sessions per week over a period of 8 weeks.  It is also a commitment to the programme that the clients attend 2 fellowship meetings per day.  We will work with the clients in identifying why they are not engaging in our abstinent programmes and set them assignments that relate to their relapse, looking at relapse prevention and their development away from substances and compulsive behaviours.

Family Programme
Our Family Programme gives the clients the opportunity to invite those people closest to them to talk honestly and openly in a safe environment about how their addiction may have affected the clients and their family, as well as being able to address the issues that have affected their relationship/s.  They will have the opportunity to work with their partner, parents and/or children with a different counsellor than their allocated individual counsellor within the programme they are attending.
